First established in 1643, Ye Olde Boot Inn is one of the oldest public houses in the UK and was a well known royalist meeting place during the English Civil War.
Browns were proud to be awarded a term contract by Samuel Smith which involved the complete restoration of Ye Olde Boot over a five year period.
Browns assembled a team of craftsman who were capable of using original craft techniques. For the 5 year period the craftsmen worked alongside the Conservation Officer agreeing schedules of timber replacement and fitting, during this time the entire building was fully restored. Part of this restoration included extensive joinery work to make replacement fittings and beams for the pub.
Project Challenges:
In addition to working on one of the oldest pubs in the country and using original craft techniques, the work had to be scheduled such that the pub could remain open and operational throughout the 5 year restoration period.
