Our colleagues at the Gateway Plaza project in Barnsley recently practiced the 6monthly evacuation drill for the site, which involved evacuating all 168 personnel off the site as quickly and as safely as possible.
All credit to the team - the practice evacuation went well without any problems and the team were able to completely evacuate the entire site in less than 12 minutes - an incredible achievement and great reflection on the planning and work that went into preparing for the evacuation.
The evacuation was incredibly well planned with a detailed sequence of events over the 12mintues.

At 1pm the alarm sounded and all staff (fire wardens) were instructed to be in their respective buildings as if they were carrying out normal duties, a manager was designated to return to the site office on the sound of the alarm unlocking the turnstile into FREE SLEW on the way and then to print off a "ROLL CALL" & "WHO’s BEEN IN TODAY" list.
These are two of many monitoring facilities on our electronic access control system that identifies all personnel currently on site as "missingâ and a full list of all personnel that has been on site today.
When the alarm sounded all managers wearing fire warden high visibility vests made their way to the fire stations positioned through the buildings and manually sounded the fire bells and guided personnel out of the building whilst other Browns staff and security made their way to the two gate exits from site and unlocked the gate to allow mass exit.
After a very impressive 8min 11 seconds all operatives were at the muster point, and a Browns manager conducted a roll call of all person’s recorded as missing on site from the "ROLL CALL" list. Less than a minute later all fire wardens had reached the muster point and were checked off the "ROLL CALL".
All 168 personnel were fully accounted for and cleared to return to work after only 11 min 11 seconds.
Well done to the team at Barnsley for such a great achievement.
