Ability and reliability: the foundations of our growth
Browns Construction Group Ltd, one of the North's leading construction businesses, has relocated to new, self-built, modern offices in South Manchester after 146 years based in Wilmslow. The company's new headquarters at Cheadle Royal Business Park is part of a 5-unit office complex that was built by Browns. The scheme was so impressive that the company bought one of the five distinct offices as their headquarters.

The new office has been named 'Bollin House' to celebrate the previous site of Bollin Hall in Wilmslow purchased by James Brown in 1910 and occupied by the Company for the next 86 years, a period which forged Browns growth and reputation as a Quality Building Contractor. Bollin Hall was believed to have been the site of the former medieval ancestral home of William de Boleyn from whose name Wilmslow was formed.

Bill Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director, is proud to say, 'The company has always affectionately but informally been known as 'Browns of Wilmslow' and we very much see this move as an extension of a long and cherished history. In fact, as well as naming the new office 'Bollin House', we have also decided to replace our phone number with a new one to reflect our heritage.

The new number is now 0845 500 1860 with the last four numbers indicating the year we were founded.'

The relocation of the business has full support of the Group Holding Company, Headcrown Plc, which has a consolidated annual turnover in excess of £200m and is one of the largest private construction and property groups in the country.

It is also another step in the re-focusing of the company on its core business of high rise construction. This follows the appointment of a new Construction Director, Cliff Hawksworth, as well as the ongoing and sustained commitment to quality management and enhanced health and safety. Browns has been awarded OHAS 18001, ISO 9001, and most recently the environmental award, ISO 14001.

Headcrown Plc has recognised the strength of Browns capabilities, track record and brand by refinancing the business in order to allow it to develop and expand its existing markets.

Browns has the skills and experience, the infrastructure and resources to meet all its clients' requirements, with systems in place to ensure projects proceed with maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Browns' unique on-site project management system allows all site offices to be electronically linked, enabling the fully trained and qualified site personnel to quickly share data.

As one of the oldest construction companies in the UK, Browns has built a solid reputation for quality and reliability since its inception in 1860, and its list of recent commercial, residential and retail projects is a real testament to the company's dynamic profile for 2007.

Bill Murphy cannot recall a more thrilling time of change for the company: "A new management team always brings a new level of energy. Combine that with the backing of our parent company and the reputation we already enjoy for exceptional quality build that outstrips client expectation, and we have all the elements in place to continue building on our worthy heritage."
